Back to school week – Ash is starting school

It’s back to school week, we’re asking the proud parents of Tech Will Save Us to share their experiences of this crazy week.

First up, Bethany’s son Ash is starting school today!

How has back to school week been?

Back to School week has been fun and a new adventure in organisation!

My son and I talked about all the new friends he was going to meet and the ‘big’ work he was going to be doing.

We tried on his new uniform which is totally amazing and his new backpack which is ‘bigger’ because his work is going to be ‘big’ apparently:-)

It has felt like a real milestone for him and our family.

It is also interesting getting organised for packing lunches, snacks and coordinating pickup and drop off. As a working family, organisation is key to us being present at the most important moments of the day for our son while still remaining flexible and present for our businesses and teams.

How did you feel about him starting school?

Proud of him and excited for how he is going to grow and mature. As a parent of a ‘big boy’ I also start to think even more about the things that he will become passionate about, the friends he will make and how this will begin to shape who he is as a person and a professional one day! Of course, I can’t help but think how awesome it is that he is going to have this amazing combination of academic, creative and technical exposure in our family which will surely spark things in him we might not have imagined!

What’s your top tips to other parents?

Stay organised so you can find your blend of being present for this important stage and the new adventure your child will experience. Make the space for you to find your flow in work and personal development. Someone once told me life is connected to the seasons and the autumn is such a great time for new beginnings for you and your child. We try and make a big deal out of this as it makes change for all of us feel like an event rather than something to fear.

Also, be creative, find ways of staying connected and complimenting their learning. One of the biggest hopes I have is that our son becomes a life long learner and this happens through passion and love, as well as school and academic work!
