Superpowers Series: Emily Brown

The world is full of superheroes. In everything we see and do, there is some hero behind it! We want to share these heroes' stories. To let everybody see the superpowers that go into making the world a better place, and how they use their creativity to save the world.Today's superhero is the one of Tech Will Save Us' own, Emily Brown, who uses her creative superpowers to build partnerships with companies around the world!

What is your superpower?

Building relationships

What or who inspired your superpower?

Being an only child means you don’t have that instant sibling support system (even if you don’t get along with a sibling, you still unconditionally love each other). So even as a little kid, I made sure to build up really strong relationships with friends and treat them as if they were a sibling!

What has been one of your best inventions/creations?

Our Selfridges Pop Up in 2017

How has technology changed what you do and influenced your life?

Technology has shaped how easily we can communicate. I love that I can chat to my friends who are spread out across the country and even the world. It’s influenced how I do things from managing my money/ budgeting and in contrast…shopping online! The only scary thing about this is… my life is on my phone!

What is your favourite Tech Will Save Us kit and why?

I love the Creative Coder Kit because it’s so open ended, with so many projects on Club MAKE, and it teaches 8 year olds how to code in a really fun and engaging way (….this is actually how I learnt the basics of coding!)

“Tech Will Save Us” – agree or disagree?

I agree and disagree. It may save us. There are so many amazing technological advances which improve our lives e.g. important medical advances, connecting with far away friends or having an enormous amount of information at the touch of a button. But.. Tech will only save us if we tighten our control on it and actively decide how much we will let it influence our lives!

We’re at a point where Generation Alpha, if left to their own devices… would be on their own devices…24/7! We have to do our best to moderate this and make sure that fundamental social skills (and many others) aren’t underdeveloped in this generation otherwise we’ll evolve into a very different society as they grow up and this might not be to the human race’s benefit!
